The Weekly Market Digest · Sunday, October 4, 2026
Hi everyone,
I hope you were able to rest and recharge this weekend. I took advantage of the regional power outage today, and got out for some lovely fall hiking (posted some videos in Health is Wealth on Discord). Before the next trading week gets going, here is a consolidated look back at everything we covered this past week.
The week in brief
It was a busy week across the board. On the macro side, soft September payrolls pulled October rate hike odds down to 17% after starting the week at 75%, core PCE cooled while Q2 GDP came in at 2.2%, and the ISM prices index jumped to 77.9, so there was plenty for the market to chew on. The AI trade stayed front and center, with posts on who benefits after semiconductors, how software stocks traded growth for profit and got repriced for it, and where the money flows in the agent economy. Through all of it, the market closed the week strong: Friday was bad news turning into good news, which is a very different thing from good news turning into bad, and we finished with two days of expanding breadth, positive institutional inflows, and the Nasdaq breaking to fresh all-time highs for its highest ever weekly candle close. We have made a fresh high in every quarter this year, and in prior years with that same read, Q4 closed higher in 19 of 20 instances, so it should be an exciting few weeks ahead.
Asset Watch
Single-name setups worth a look.
Asset Watch: NVDA - A Record Buyback and the Sentry Watchdog · Sep 28
Nvidia added $150 billion to its buyback program, the largest authorization increase on record, lifting remaining capacity to $235 billion through fiscal 2028, and the stock was up as much as 3.5% while the Nasdaq, Intel, and AMD traded lower. Nvidia also launched Sentry, an AI agent safety platform that runs only on its own BlueField-4 chips, giving buyers another reason to take the full Nvidia system rather than mix in competing processors.
Asset Watch: GOOGL Spikes to $360 on Gemini 4, Then Fades · Sep 30
Alphabet spiked to $360 after hours on the Gemini 4 Argon announcement, then faded to around $349 as questions emerged about the model's real-world coding ability. Argon leads on 13 of 18 benchmarks against top OpenAI and Anthropic models in Google's own tests, but no public release date has been set and access is limited to a small group of cybersecurity partners.
Asset Watch: IBM Catches a Bid From Accenture and 'Bob' · Oct 1
IBM gapped up as much as 6% and printed an island reversal on the daily chart after Accenture reported record full-year bookings of $84.5 billion and IBM launched Bob, a self-hosted coding agent. The stock gave back more than half the move and is bouncing from a cluster of supports on the 4-hour chart, the lower Deviation Band, the 50% level, and the local golden pocket.

The Weekly Alpha
The week's flagship posts: the market recap, the live calls, and the watchlist review.
Weekly Trade Recap - 9/28 - 10/2 · Oct 3
The Nasdaq closed at its highest weekly close ever, breadth widened into the end of the week, and the measured move from the inverse head and shoulders points to roughly 33,000, which lines up with Adaptive Levels. Most of my Mag 7 January calls should hit their targets over the next two to three weeks, so I am in profit-taking mode there before rotating into the AI efficiency sectors I have been posting about. I walk through each of the seven names in the video.
Weekly Market Prep Zoom Call - 09.28.26 · Sep 29
We spent more time than usual on market mechanics this week, because two separate pressures were landing on the same sessions at once. Higher yields above 5% are pulling institutional money permanently into Treasuries, and quarter-end rebalancing was forcing balanced funds to sell equities and buy bonds into Wednesday's close, with both halves of that trade pointing the same direction. The useful takeaway is what happens after: Thursday starts a new quarter, fresh money comes in, and the window-dressing pressure is gone.
Markets & Macro
The bigger picture across rates, commodities, and the tape.
The Second Leg of the AI Trade: Who Benefits After Semiconductors · Oct 1
My thesis for the second leg of the AI trade is that the gains shift from companies building AI to companies using it and the networks AI agents use to move money. Biotech moved first, software has started to recover, and Accenture's jump points to IT services as the next group. Crypto is the other beneficiary, with Solana carrying the most agent traffic of any network.
Software Stocks Traded Growth for Profit, and the Market Repriced Them · Oct 3
About 75% of public software companies are now profitable, but only around 30% are growing revenue 20% or more. In early 2022 those numbers were nearly flipped, and that reversal explains most of this year's software sell-off. The names that can show growth picking back up are the ones I'm watching for the second leg of the AI trade.
AI Adoption Is Still Thin, and That Is the Case for the Semiconductor Trade · Oct 2
Only 2.2% of households in PNC card data paid for a generative AI subscription in May, and just 2% of S&P 500 companies track an AI result over time, yet compute is already tight at this level of adoption. That thin penetration is the durability argument for the semiconductor trade, though the two real risks are funding strain before paying customers arrive and the $130 billion of data center projects blocked or delayed by local opposition in the first quarter alone.
Soft September Payrolls Pull October Hike Odds to 17% as Futures Chop Near 7,800 · Oct 2
September payrolls rose just 29,000 against a 90,000 forecast, July and August were revised down a combined 60,000, and unemployment ticked up to 4.2%, pulling October Fed hike odds on Polymarket down to 17% from 34% the prior morning. The report is soft everywhere rather than hot anywhere, which makes it a growth worry as much as a rate story. S&P 500 futures jumped about 40 points and bitcoin crossed $87,000 on the print, then both chopped waiting for the cash open.
Goldman's Five Trades: AI Agents, Unprofitable Tech, the Power Grid, Europe, and Brazil · Sep 27
Goldman's macro desk says oil and the 10-year Treasury yield are still the two variables that drive the S&P 500, and every other theme only gets room to run when those settle down. The 10-year closed at 5.17% after seven straight months of gains, Goldman now calls shorting unprofitable tech very compelling, and its AI agent basket is up roughly 15% since early August while traditional consumer names are down 12%. We also covered Goldman's plays on the federal grid buildout, German fiscal winners in Europe, and Brazilian rate-sensitive stocks ahead of the October 4 vote.

AI Trade Desk Guide: Full Market Scanner · Sep 30
Miles released the Full Market Scanner for the AI Trading Desk, which lets you search more than 13,000 tracked assets using plain English or manual filters across technicals, fundamentals, and our own indicator signals. You can ask the whole market which names printed a buy on Adaptive Mean Reversion in the last five days or which ones are sitting in the lower Deviation Band and get a list back instead of flipping through charts one at a time.
AI Trade Desk Guide: Finding a Trade Setup With the Market Scanner · Oct 1
Miles recorded a short walkthrough showing how he uses the Full Market Scanner to find trade setups in sectors he does not already follow. He narrows thousands of assets down to two finalists using plain-English filters, lets the AI Trading Desk compare them, and ends with a name that was not on his radar when he started. The Full Market Scanner is a Pro tier feature, and Quant members had a day left on the free two-week trial.

Micron Call Breakdown: Memory Stays Tight Through 2028 · Oct 1
Micron guided next quarter about 8% above the Street and management said memory supply will be much tighter in 2027 and 2028 than this year, with more than 75% of fiscal 2027 shipments already committed and long-term contracts covering over 35% of revenue through 2030. Most of Micron's 2027 HBM supply is sold at significantly higher prices, capex is climbing, and next quarter's gross margin is guided as the low point for fiscal 2027.
Anthropic IPO: First Look at the Prospectus Numbers · Sep 29
Anthropic's IPO prospectus, reviewed ahead of public release, shows 2025 revenue grew roughly 12-fold to $4.59 billion while the operating loss widened to $8.06 billion, and the company is targeting a valuation above $2 trillion. About $34 billion of the $41.97 billion net loss is an accounting charge rather than cash spent, two customers made up 24% of revenue, and the listing looks likely after the November 3 midterms, still ahead of OpenAI.
Toshiba Hard Drive Expansion Hits Western Digital and Seagate · Oct 2
Toshiba plans to spend about $380 million to double its data center hard drive capacity and push its market share from just over 10% to 30%, sending Western Digital and Seagate each down about 14% while the rest of memory held up. The supply addition is modest, adding at most 10% to industry capacity by early 2028 against demand growing 25% or more a year, but the signal matters: one of only three hard drive makers has chosen market share over price in the same window where new Chinese memory capacity is coming online.

Earnings Reports
Closing out Q2 and opening the new season: the final quarterly scorecard, this week's print, and the week's earnings posts.
S&P 500 Earnings Scorecard — Q2 2026 Final Scorecard
Before the new season gets going, the final Q2 scorecard: of 486 S&P 500 reporters, 378 beat estimates for a 78% beat rate, the best in 12 quarters and well above the 69% average of the prior 11, and yet the average stock moved 0.0% on its report. Earnings are still delivering, the market just does not yet believe in their durability, and if that narrative shifts, prices have room to catch up to what companies have already delivered.
S&P 500 Earnings Scorecard — Week of September 28, 2026
This week we had 3 reporters and all 3 beat, so the beat rate was 100%. The tape rewarded them with an average price reaction of +2.4%. The strongest sector was the one with the highest beat rate and average reaction, while the weakest was the one with the lowest readings. That lines up with the longer run in the sense that the better sectors kept carrying the load, while the softer ones lagged.
